project NEIGHBOURS WHO DISAPPEARED

We would like to introduce project of the Jewish Museum in Prague: The project Tribute to the Child Holocaust Victims follows in suit of the project Neighbours Who Disappeared. Similarly to the latter it addresses young people aged 12 – 18 and proposes that they work independently on the stories of people who lived with their neighbors in harmony until WW II. and who were then mostly marked, restricted, persecuted, and finally liquidated. This project’s topic, however, is in the first place the life of the WW II. students and children in the same schools children go to today, and what were the reasons for their sudden departure.
The exhibition is travelling now through Europe, Slovak Republic in Czech language, UK, Ireland in English, Germany in Germain and we are preparing a traveling through Romania and Italy.

The participants are the authors (and therefore copyright holders) of their work. The NGO Zapomenutí helps with digitalising the individual schools' works and creating their final graphic form in order to be able to join them together into one exhibition. The Education and Cultural Centre of the Jewish Museum in Prague is the project's warrant. At first, we supported the creation of panels and supporting texts in order to have means to spread the project into more schools in the form of an exhibition. Since 2007, we encourage schools mainly to create websites. It shows, however, that panels and printed material have their irreplaceable role in the project and are of importance for the schools themselves. A panel represents the main and most important results of the work and makes them available to the widest public. The important information should be supported by suitable graphic representation. If a panel meets our requirements both technically and content-wise, we financially support its creation. Further information in the form of a brochure, a collection of works or a regional exhibition to the panel, is always welcome. We support the printing of brochures and collections of works from several schools as examples of a successful project. We are currently trying to obtain extracts from works that meet our requirements and we plan to use them as supporting texts for a joint exhibition in the Czech Republic and also abroad. The printing of the extracts depends on successfully raising funds for them. Placing the results of the project on both school websites and the project's portal as very beneficial. We help to publish quality works (including a video showing the student's opinions and the testimonies of contemporary witnesses) on the iDNES internet portal. We will also try to present the schools' work abroad, preferably with the help of the participants themselves. We prefer to choose those groups that are willing to financially participate and actively cooperate with us on the presentations. In order to be able to provide your group help with coordination and methodical or even financial support, we need to know about you even before you begin to participate in the project. We also need to be informed about your progress through the project's stages. Therefore, please fill in the subscription form on the project's website www.zmizeli-sousede.cz as soon as possible.

RESULTS OF THE PROJECT
